Education Committee

The Education Committee is responsible for helping raise the level of professionalism of the Minnesota mortgage community by providing opportunities for continuing education to Association members and non-members. Classes offered often include RML School, MN Law and Ethics, Credit Scoring, Loan Processing and RESPA. The committee also coordinates and facilitates bi-monthly informational breakfast meetings where the latest industry topics are discussed.

Minnesota Mortgage Specialist (MMS) designation.

To be eligible for the designation, a person must have met the following requirements:

  1. Have a minimum of two years in the mortgage lending industry full-time.
  2. If you have less than five years in the industry, you must attend the Residential Mortgage Lending (RML) School.
  3. Qualify with 30 points.
  4. Complete the NEW MMA Minnesota Law course after July 1st, 2007 as part of your 30 points. Also complete the Business Ethics course.
  5. Pass the proctored MMS exam with a minimum passing score of 75%. 
  6. Apply for the designation and pay the exam fee--$75 for MMA members and $150 for non-members.
  7. All classes will be counted up to 24 months prior to taking the MMS exam.

You will receive a certificate worthy of framing, receive an MMS pin,  as well as be allowed to use the designation in marketing themselves, i.e., business cards, letterhead, brochures, etc.

To maintain the designation, they are required to provide sixteen (16) hours of continuing education credits every 3 years. One of the classes must include a Law and/or Compliance course. The CEU's will come from MMA-sponsored classes and any other courses pertaining to the industry outside of MMA, but approved as acceptable by MMA.
